DYBF BALLET OUTREACH PROGRAM
Desert Youth Ballet Foundation and Arizona School of Classical Ballet faculty offer a unique educational opportunity to children in The Valley, encouraging a love for reading and an appreciation for the performing arts through attendance at special “Story Time” events presented at local libraries. Many children from all over The Valley enjoy these lovely presentations at Glendale library, Desert Broom library and Scottsdale library since its conception in 2003 and continues to expand with its growing popularity.
Children of all ages enjoy the wonderful story if Clara and her journey to the Kingdom of Sweets. Following the reading, children join together and dance to the delightful music of The Nutcracker Ballet and learn to dance just like the characters in the story! They march like the soldiers, run as mice and perform Chinese, Russian and Spanish steps! All participants learn about the beautiful costumes such as tutus, tiaras and pointe shoes.
Sometimes we step into the magical world of Angelina Ballerina. Children love to learn to listen to the adventures of Angelina, the mouse as she jumps and pirouettes in her joy of ballet class. Following the story, kids who attended the reading are invited to a ballet class where they learn the steps that Angelina practices each day as she studies to be a famous ballerina! Together they explore the magical world of ballet.
